This is the landing page of the Claim Your Seat Voting Portal. The portal was developed by The Democracy, Straight-Up! Project, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring direct democracy to America, starting at the national level.
Why?
Every time you vote for a legislative representative, you are voting away your own power.
Any law can directly affect your freedom. Since your freedom belongs to you, you should have the right to directly affect any law that governs you. And yet you are systematically denied that right by the ‘legacy system.’ Your power is filtered through two-party politics. The things you care about are bundled with issues you don’t. You are forced to entrust decisions to people who you don’t really trust. All you can do is choose between the lesser of two evils, and hope for the best.
We can put an end to all that. Permanently.
How?
Straight-Up Democracy does one thing, and one thing only: it preserves your power. In doing this, it eliminates the need for ‘electioneering.’ It eliminates issue bundling. It allows you to select only people you trust to represent you. It will make the two-party system a curious artifact of a less democratic past.
It will end the era of ‘voter as spectator’ and usher in the era of ‘voter as lawmaker.’

What to expect
It may all seem uncertain and confusing at first–that is no surprise. This is a new frontier. We are asking you to leave much that is familiar, even oddly comfortable, behind. But fear not. You will always be in control every step of the way. And the democracy waiting for you on the other side will be well worth the journey!
It is not our mission to tell you what to do when you get there. You will belong to a legislature of the voters. You may participate as much or as little as you choose. We’ll provide resources. There will be many other voices trying to tell you what to do. Our job at The Project is to make sure that decisions about what work to do, how to get it done, who to trust, and when to withdraw that trust remain continuously in your direct control.

You will learn more as you go. As you become more familiar with the Straight-Up System, it will eventually become second nature. And once it is up and running, you will never want to go back to the way things were before.

You’ll find out more about what each step means as you engage in the process of self-assembling a legislature open to every voter in your district. Every step of the process is relatively simple, practical and within reach of the vast majority of voters. You don’t have to change who you are, or what you believe. You don’t have to attend any meetings. No one will assign you ‘democracy homework.’ This is not about educating you or improving your civic engagement skills. It’s about putting you in power.
