Putting the ‘Ah!’ Back in Democracy!

We understand you are bombarded with ‘asks’.

If you love the goals of the Democracy, Straight-Up! Project, and you feel good about ‘writing us a check,’ we thank you warmly.

But we are not going to say, “Give whatever you can! No amount is too small! If you don’t support us the sky will fall!” We see this this kind of ‘ask’ as a manifestation of the Civic Harassment Industry. ‍ ‍

500 Donors, One Day

We’ve come up with a more civilized and appropriate way to hit you up for money.

We want to tap into resources already on hand, without stressing anyone out or cajoling them to break open the piggy bank. This is a fitting way to go about things, because that is actually how Straight-Up Democracy works!

So, if you are thinking about donating, ask yourself a simple question—about how much do you have invested?

If the answer is ‘nothing,’ or ‘less than $500,000,’ we are finding much better ways you can contribute. Send us an email at democracystraightup@gmail.com and tell us about yourself and your interest in the project.

If the answer to the question is, “Yes, I do happen to have some investments…why do you ask?” then we make the following request—give us one day, and we’ll give you the future of the democracy!

You don’t have to get out a slide rule and a calculator and you don’t have to call your broker. Just take a look at this table. It shows how much you might typically be making on the average day if you have a certain amount invested conservatively over the course of a year. Just pledge that amount on the donation page (you’ll have to fill in the amount manually). We’ll record the payment in your bracket. Maybe ask some other people in your bracket to do the same. Help us get to 500 donors, and we’ll launch this puppy into orbit! (No actual puppies will be launched into orbit.)

What, Exactly, Does this Campaign Fund?

This is start-up funding. Our Goal of $100,000 dollars will fund the nonprofit Democracy, Straight-Up! Project for the next year. It will pay for two full-time salaries plus expenses. That’s all we need to get started. From there, we will build—we have some exciting plans!— until we reach our goal—at least one US Congressional district with a Straight-Up Rep, implementing the will of their voters, based on their actual votes, bill by bill, starting in the 121st Congress, January 2029.

This is a very achievable goal.
